NEW PRODUCTS

05/2012:  5 Beautiful Colors of "Rayon Krinkle" on cones.  This is a wonderful yarn for knitting or weaving and has great drape!  Sample woven scarf on webpage with yarn.

05/2012:  Ecru "Fat & Fluffy" Sock Loopers and White Acrylic Sock Loopers will be here the week of May 15th at $3.00 per pound.

02/25/12:
"Bagged Rug Wool" has been added to our "odd lot" offerings.  This wool has been "slid off the cardboard cone" and bagged by dye lot and size of yarn.  Most of the yarn will be 3/22 and 2/65 sizes with a few pounds of a 3-ply "cable" type yarn--2/55/3.  Besides the very attractive price of $3.00/lb., the other advantage of purchasing yarn in this form is the savings on shipping costs since you are not paying to have the cardboard cones shipped to you...just yarn!  We are hoping this will be a somewhat permanent supplier and that we will be able to offer new colors every month or so!

02/25/12:  "Used Equipment" webpage added.  This webpage will list used weaving, spinning, etc. equipment for sale by R&M Yarns and our customers as well as items wanted.

Any conversations, negotiations, purchases or sales will be between our customers and R&M Yarns will not be involved other than the actual posting.

02/04/12:  Natural Cotton Krinkle.
This is a fabulous yarn with a lot of character for thick and thirsty hand or kitchen towels.  It's actually 3 tiny cotton threads wrapped in a "crinkle" fashion around a cotton roving.  I've sett it at 8 epi for towels and love the results!  It's priced at $10/lb. and comes on cones averaging 4.5 pounds each.  I believe it would make wonderful baby blankets as well.  If the sett is closer, it would make nice, thick bath mats or area rugs.

9/20/11: Natural 4-Ply Cotton (scroll to bottom of web page for "odd lots")This is a very soft 4.5/4-ply yarn; it's actually two 2-plies loosely twisted together.  I've made a couple of handwoven towels using it as well as a knitted wash cloth and I really like the finished product.  Of course, the towels are thick and thirsty, but sometimes I like that look and feel in a towel (Phyllis Narus).

9/16/11:  BIG, FAT WOOL--Received a 900 lb. shipment of a very large diameter "odd lot" wool that is natural with little gold, yellow, brown rust specks here and there.  It's originally from Germany but we don't know if it was actually produced there or just spun there.  Since it is such a large diameter wool, it looks like it would be great for a "filler" yarn or to spin alpaca fiber around instead of the "mop" cotton that some of you are currently using.

It's a "singles" yarn and it looks as though it has already been "fulled" because when I agitated it very harshly in an automatic washer for about 20 minutes in very hot water, it did not "full" or "felt" any further.  The photo on the webpage was knitted on size 13 needles and was taken after it was washed.  Click here to go to the webpage with close-ups of this fabulous new find!

2/5/12 Update: There are only a few pounds left of this great yarn.  Our customers say it dyes beautifully!

The price listed is $8/lb. for large cones and $4/lb. for small cones weighing less than 1 pound.

EVENTS

2012
2nd Annual Georgetown Fiber Art Festival is scheduled for Saturday, October 27th.

2011

November 5
FIBER FESTIVAL at R&M Yarns

R&M Yarns is very excited to be hosting the first ever Fiber Arts Festival in Georgetown, TN!  The date is Saturday, November 5, 2011, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.  The event will be held on the property of R&M Yarns in front of the Store and Studio.

We have secured a large tent for protection from the elements...whatever they may be that time of year!  We have invited several artists to demonstrate their area of expertise; i.e. spinning all types of fiber--angora rabbit, wool, alpaca, "art yarn"--weaving on various styles of looms--inkle, floor, table--dyeing in an iron pot on an open fire, all types of knitting and crochet, and on and on.

So far we have these animals coming:  alpacas, angora goats, pygora goats, shetland sheep and angora rabbits.

We're hoping to have a successful first event!  (printable postcard)

October 15 & 16:  CLEVELAND APPLE FESTIVAL

For the past several years R&M Yarns has participated in the Cleveland Apple Festival which will be held Saturday & Sunday, October 15th & 16th, around the Courthouse Square in Downtown Cleveland, Tennessee.  We will be demonstrating weaving and have several of our hand-made items for sale.  And, of course, we will be bringing some yarn with us.  (The Store will be closed those two days.)
